SUNDAY FEBRUARY 18th MEETING & PROGRAM

We will again meet on a SUNDAY afternoon at 1:00pm at Encore Experiences, 312 Alumni Drive, Harleysville. Ellen O. Nelson, Coordinator of the Boyer Gallery and Art Department Chair at the Hill School in Pottstown will present a program on the original art work by N. C. Wyeth at the Hill School. No introduction is needed for this renowned American artist and illustrator who created over 3000 paintings during his lifetime (1882-1945). Many of his paintings are part of the Hill School collection. Ellen has long been a friend to PVAC and works with us each year to make our Annual Juried Art Exhibition at the Boyer Gallery possible. Come out to join us for a relaxing and informative afternoon.

We will begin with a brief business meeting and light refreshments.

Monthly Membership Meeting Presentation by Jeff Schaller –  Encaustics Jeff Schaller (pronounced shay-ler) defines his oeuvre with uniquely sophisticated compositions. Provocative and whimsical, Schaller propels the viewer into scenes of seemingly unrelated subjects, his own captivating and complex sonatas. Simultaneously, they are pop and edgy, esoteric and direct. Using encaustic* paints, Schaller uses lost and found images, words and language, to paint with a precision and intricacy not normally found in encaustic paintings. His approach is expressionistic, contemporary, and painterly, with powerful brush strokes that are set instantaneously. Schaller’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States.Read More →

Mick McAndrews demonstration

A Fine Afternoon!

Our first winter Sunday afternoon program was very enjoyable with a good sized group present to enjoy the watercolor demonstration by Mick McAndrews. Mick provided us with great advice on how to approach our paintings stating that “there is no such thing as a perfect painting!” Mick narrowed it down that everything you need to know to be a successful artist is to simplify and remember three things: 1. Interesting shapes are more important than the perfect subject. 2. A variety of edges; soft, hard and rough texture are more important than perfect reality. 3. Darks, mid-range and light values are more important than color.

TREE TRUNKS ARE NOT BROWN!

That was one of many good tips Terry Souders gave our group at the October program. Terry regaled us with a humorous account of his journey as an artist from drawing along with “Winky Dink” on the TV screen with a grease pencil at age six to launching into watercolors at the encouragement of his mentor artist Ranulf Bye. Terry, a graduate of Penn State, told us that his college advisor said he had aptitude to be an artist or a farmer! Terry certainly took the right path in choosing art and we enjoyed seeing some of his earliest work. He wrapped up the evening

PVAC reaches 60!

PVAC REACHES 60 -THAT’S NOT OLD! It was a very enjoyable evening on Oct. 5th when approximately 30 members gathered at Woodside Inn to celebrate PVAC’s 60th anniversary. The banquet room was lovely displaying paintings from members past and present including some work by our founder Charles Gardner, the food was scrumptious and there was plenty of merriment and reminiscing. Our special guest, Charles Gardner, Jr, shared stories of his artist father’s passion for painting. A great big THANKS goes to Lori Quinque-Quinn for all her work to put this special celebration together. Join us in 2027 for the 70th anniversary party, stay tuned for
